What to do ahead of time for stress-free travel!

Are you planning to travel out of YQB in the next few months? Here are some tips to help you be well prepared before your flight. 

1.Plan your trip to the airport

There are several ways to get to the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. 

Drive your own vehicle and park it at YQB

The Econo and Proxi parking lots face the airport. You can see the rates and prepay for your parking spot on our website. 

Get a taxi or limousine

You can book a ride with one of the companies that serve YQB. That should help you avoid any unpleasant surprises on the day you’re set to leave!  

Take public transit with the Réseau de transports de la Capitale (RTC) 

The RTC’s 76 and 80 bus routes link the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport to Sainte-Foy and downtown Québec City. Check the RTC website for more information: https://www.rtcquebec.ca/en. 

Use a rideshare service

Uber and Lyft both serve the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport. Download their app to book a ride.  

Ask someone you know for a lift 

A simple and easy option is to ask someone you know to drop you off in one of the reserved spots in front of the terminal. And whoever picks you up can take advantage of a free waiting area when you get back. Just let them know when you’re ready and they can collect you curbside at the terminal.

2.Have the necessary documents handy and check in online

Other than a valid passport and your plane ticket, other documents may be necessary for travel, such as a visa, proof of accommodations, travel insurance documents, your driver’s licence or your healthcare card. Scanning, printing or photocopying them could be useful should you lose the originals. You can never be too careful! Several airlines allow you to check in and reserve your seat online 24 hours before your flight. It’s a surefire way to save valuable time! 

3.Check the CATSA website

Knowing what you can and can’t bring in your luggage isn’t always clear, but no need to worry! The Canadian Air Traffic Security Authority (CATSA) is there to help you get it right. Their website has everything you need to know about what’s allowed in checked and carry-on baggage.

4.Download the free ArriveCAN app

Up to 72 hours before your arrival in Canada, you can download the ArriveCAN app and submit your customs and immigration declaration to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). You’ll be able to view your receipt in the app, and it will also be sent to you via email.

At the Québec City Airport, you can scan your passport at the kiosk to get your declaration and finalize the process. The machine will print a receipt that you’ll then show to a border agent.

5. Get to the airport early

Get to the airport early and be well prepared! Set aside time to check in your bags and go through the security checkpoint. Confirm your airline’s hours of operation and plan your arrival accordingly. Airline check-in counters generally open three hours before international flights, and two hours before cross-border and domestic flights. They then usually close them an hour before the departure time, at the latest. But the hours of operation of these counters can vary, which is why we recommend confirming them before you head to the airport.
