Environment
Sustainability is at the heart of the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport’s values and strategic decisions. Our approach relies on continuous improvement and concrete action to limit our environmental footprint.
A daily commitment
Every day, our teams strive to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. Our actions focus on:
protecting the water quality
protecting the soil
efficiently managing energy
reducing and reusing residual matter
reducing GHG emissions
strict compliance with current environmental standards
We also use technology to leverage practices and equipment that are better for the environment.
What we’ve achieved
Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) (optimization)
50% of the light vehicle fleet is electric
Installation of electric charging stations for our partners
Supporting our partners in their decarbonization efforts
Launching a food waste diversion pilot project
Recycling program for residual hazardous and non-hazardous matter
Managing two bee hotels and a hive to promote biodiversity on site
Program to discourage vehicles from idling
Managing the snow used on site
Efficiently managing de-icing agents
Managing halocarbons
Environmental assessments of new projects and efforts to reduce water and energy consumption for new builds
Wildlife management program
Campaigns for comprehensive water quality control
Use of geothermal energy
Food waste diversion
Managing rainwater
De-icing procedures for aircraft
Our environmental management system (EMS)
We have an environmental management system (EMS) based on ISO 14001 that regulates our practices and allows us to ensure we’re adhering to standards, protecting the environment and continously improving what we do. When our EMS was established, an activity analysis was conducted in order to target the most significant environmental aspects.
Environmental initiatives tied to our EMS
Implementing 20+ measures, particularly operations procedures and work directives
Training available to all employees on the importance of sustainable development
A monitoring program for the most significant environmental aspects (surface water, groundwater, drinking water, soil, air, energy, residual matter, residual hazardous matter, etc.)
There’s also continous regulatory monitoring, allowing YQB to stay current on new environmental protection requirements. System audits and environmental compliance checks are also conducted regularly.
Offsetting your trip’s carbon footprint
Try out a tool that allows you to calculate your trip’s carbon footprint and what you can do to offset it. Your carbon offset will lead to trees being planted in the boreal forest, which plays a pivotal role in the fight against climate change.
